A comforting and delicious crumble showcasing the best of Jersey's autumn produce. Sweet Jersey apples and figs are baked under a buttery almond crumble for a perfect seasonal dessert.
Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan/Gas Mark 4).
Prepare the fruit filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, quartered figs, grated Jersey Royal potato, caster sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon (if using). Toss gently to combine.
Transfer the fruit mixture to the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Make the crumble topping: In a separate large bowl, rub the cold, cubed Jersey butter into the sifted plain flour and ground almonds until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. A food processor can be used for this but pulse very carefully.
Stir in the demerara sugar into the crumble mixture.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit filling.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crumble is golden brown and the fruit is tender and bubbling.
Let the crumble cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with Jersey milk or Jersey cream.

For extra flavour, add a tablespoon of Jersey apple brandy or Calvados to the fruit filling.
Adjust the amount of sugar to taste depending on the sweetness of the apples and figs.
The crumble topping can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to use.
If the crumble topping is browning too quickly, cover the dish with foil during the last 10-15 minutes of baking.
