Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan/Gas Mark 4).
Prepare the apples: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 2 tbsp caster sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
Transfer the apple mixture to the baking dish, spreading it in an even layer.
Prepare the crumble topping: In a separate bowl, rub the plain flour and Jersey butter together with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the 75g caster sugar, grated Jersey Royal potato, and Jersey Black Butter. Mix until well combined. Add the chopped nuts if using.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crumble topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
While the crumble is baking, prepare the custard according to packet instructions using Jersey milk, or scoop out the vanilla ice cream.
Let the crumble cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with Jersey custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

For a richer flavour, add a knob of extra Jersey butter to the apple mixture before topping with the crumble.
If the crumble topping starts to brown too quickly, cover the baking dish loosely with foil for the last 10-15 minutes of baking.
The grated Jersey Royal adds a subtle sweetness and contributes to the crumble's delicious texture. Don't skip it!
Adjust the amount of Jersey Black Butter to your preference, depending on how strong you want the flavour to be.
