A unique pizza that blends South African flavors with the familiar comfort of pizza. It features a spiced minced meat topping inspired by Bobotie, complemented by sweet banana slices and a tangy chutney drizzle.
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven to heat up.
In a large skillet or pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
Stir in the curry powder, turmeric, ground coriander, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute to bloom the spices.
Add the almonds, raisins/sultanas, bay leaves, milk, and beaten egg to the mixture. Stir well to combine and simmer for about 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened slightly. Remove the bay leaves.
On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough to your desired size and shape.
Carefully transfer the pizza dough to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet.
Spread the Bobotie mixture evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the Bobotie.
Arrange the banana slices on top of the cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing.
Drizzle generously with chutney before serving.

For a spicier Bobotie, add a pinch of chili flakes or a finely chopped chili to the mixture.
If you don't have raisins or sultanas, dried apricots can be used as a substitute.
Adjust the amount of chutney to your preference. You can also serve extra chutney on the side.
For a richer flavor, use ground lamb instead of ground beef.
Feel free to experiment with other toppings such as chopped bell peppers or caramelized onions.
